Maintenance Information for Your Customer
By Docherty Trade
It’s important that customers are provided with the correct maintenance information.
Most importantly, the flue should be professionally swept at least once a year, however more frequent sweeping maybe required dependant on the type of fuel being used. If the stove is used constantly as part of a central heating system then the frequency of sweeping will increase.
To prolong the life of a stove, the stove door glass should be kept clean to stop the build-up of soot and tar. If the door is not sealing properly, and or cracked glass they will need to be replaced. Any signs of damage or smoking back into the room; the appliance is not to be used.
Appliance components, such as baffles, throat plates, grates, and fuel retaining bars, are susceptible to warping and damage when subjected to continuous extreme temperatures, so may need to be routinely replaced dependent on usage.
For stove maintenance, several components will be thought of as consumables by the manufacturer and therefore won’t be covered under warranty. This includes the door glass, door seals, fire bricks, baffle plate, and grates; this list is not exhaustive and will be manufacturer dependant.
Ash should be removed when necessary. When burning wood some ash should be kept (about an inch worth) to help the stove burn more efficiently. If the customer is burning mineral fuel then the ash pan must be emptied at least once a day, the ash must not touch the underside of the grate to prevent overheating.
